Nokia layoffs 1,700 jobs world wide

Hard hit by the global recession, Nokia plans to cut 1,700 jobs worldwide, reports BBC News.

In an effort to cut annual costs in its key handset unit by 700m euros ($910 million), it will eliminate jobs in departments such as marketing, development and support, according to Reuters. The company has about 125,000 employees. Most of the cuts will be in Finland, but jobs in the United States and UK will be affected, too.

It's not clear whether this includes job cuts reported earlier.
